Using natural lighting in larger buildings and facilities can do much to reduce energy and utility costs, but when it comes to installing solar tubes and other more sustainable equipment options, far greater gain may be possible. Ensuring that students are able to learn more about the clean-energy alternatives that will be used to power their future, and can be educated about the importance of environmental sustainability is not an issue that we can afford to neglect. Ensuring that students are given access to a greener and more comfortable learning environment, as well as giving them a chance to experience such technology and equipment first-hand, can be an important part of the educational process.

Using natural lighting in place of conventional fixtures can do much to create a more comfortable and energy efficient environment. Ensuring that schools are given full access to such resources will also allow them to provide students and young minds with an important educational opportunity. Using cleaner and more sustainable solutions is an essential part of any effort to address the current energy crisis and ensure that a greener, brighter and more secure future will be possible for future generations to enjoy.

Trying to stay environmentally responsible is important to many Americans today. Recycling, driving more fuel efficient vehicles and trying to save electricity at home have all become second nature. One of the best ways to drastically reduce the amount of an electric bill is to install a small home turbine.

These small turbines are wind collecting devices that convert the wind energy into electrical energy. The wind spins the blades on the turbine and the turbine uses a generator to convert the spinning of the blades into electrical current. The current is then transferred to a system of batteries and capacitors that will hold the charge until it is needed from a home appliance.

The battery holds the energy as direct current electricity. When the charge leaves the batteries, it goes through a voltage inversion process to make it compatible with the alternating current that most homes run. At some point there is a mechanism that distributes the wind-produced energy and the utility feed.

Affordable wind turbine systems do not yet have the capacity to power high amperage appliances such as washing machines and dryers, but they have plenty of power to handle televisions, computers and most other personal electronic devices.

Winning the energy battle with wind and sun depends on a variety of factors. The biggest factor will be the continued cost of the technology used for these alternative energy sources. Fossil fuels that are used for energy production continue to be cheaper to use than alternative sources.

Renewable energy sources from wind and the sun need to compete and be affordable to fossil fuels that are used to create energy. The most mature and largest of these renewable energy sources is power from wind. Solar power has not yet reached a large scale to provide continued use. This type of power is still a great option for homes and buildings.

Solar and wind power does not have the capability to provide electricity or power on demand. This is a major component for companies supplying power for consumers. A transmission grid is needed to have electricity that is generated from wind farms and solar panels to major cities. Once the cost for the lines decreases to an affordable level, availability of wind and sun power is a viable option.

Currently wind and solar power farms require storage for energy that is created. A cost-effective means to store energy on the electrical grid will change the game for wind and sun energy.

Community gardens are a great way to bring the church and the community together. Church leaders should call on the community for the upkeep of the garden, and to run a distribution program. The community will benefit from the garden by having access to fresh fruits and vegetables they would normally have to purchase from a grocery store or fruit market outside of their area. During the initial planting and designing of the garden, church members and leaders will have the opportunity to work side by side with members of the community.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. This will produce new relationships between the community and the church. Many religious institutions across the nation have began this type of community outreach program and have been successful. Church leaders should be sure to reach out to the youth in the community as well as the adults when they began the garden outreach. Youth who participate in the program will learn new skills and become interested in other programs that the church has to offer. Parents who find their youth interested in church functions may also become curious and began to look into the other resources available through the church. This is how community relations are built.

Consumers do not need to rely on the electric company to disperse the electrical energy to their home. There are alternate sources. Alternate sources include solar energy with the use of solar panels and wind energy with the use of windmills.

Solar energy is very popular. People install solar panels to the roof of their homes or buildings that collect energy from the rays of the sun. Solar panels are modular. This means that you can add more solar panels to the existing solar panels as you need them.I was looking for more information and found it here. Solar panels are light and easy to haul up to the roof. They typically weigh only about twenty pounds. Because the sun is always shining, you will always be able to accrue solar energy.

Wind energy is becoming very popular. Wind energy is a clean way to use electricity. People who use this type of energy invest in a windmill or wind turbine. These can be expensive to buy but in the end, you are paying off that wind turbine and saving extreme amounts of money. Wind turbines are set up in your yard, typically on a higher elevation to catch the wind at the perfect point.
By using alternative energy, you will be helping to conserve our country.

Green and eco-friendly communities are growing in popularity, but many areas are lacking in growth simply because they do not know where to begin. Building a green community is more than having recycling bins, compost collections, and a “Green Day”, at a local school. It means that are particular group of folks are sensitive and committed to creating, using, and supporting green energy sources every step of the way. Here are some ways to consider.

The creation of a large local farmers’ market that is used all year long is good for the local economy of any community. The items that cannot be used should go to a community compost so that everyone can use it for spring gardens.

A community should give incentives for the use of solar enrgy, windpower, and weatherization efforts in the area. Giftcards to local restaurants can be a great way to reward the community.

There should be bulk recycling done, and the proceeds used to fund youth projects, and other human service projects in which the whole community can benefit. This helps everyone.

Finally, there should be a mandate that environmental friendly building materials be used in all current projects and no exceptions. Eco-friendly, all the way.

If your community holes up on the weekends to watch directtv satellite HD or spend time with their nuclear families we’ve got a few suggestions for getting everyone out and together. If you’re working on bringing your neighborhood together, try some of these tactics:
Plant a Community Garden: Who doesn’t love a reason to work together for something that has a payoff? A community garden is great for kids and the environment and it’s going to save everyone money when they can harvest their own vegetables!
Create a Cause: Why not come up with a neighborhood walk or event to benefit a cause everyone can get behind? Plan a 5K or even a volunteer day and encourage everyone in your community to participate together. Neighborhood Yard Sale: If your neighbors seem to be money motivated, offer the opportunity to sell your old junk at a giant joint yard sale. Keep some of the profits to go towards community projects and allow everyone equal space and the opportunity to meet and interact before the big day.

It is normal to think of canned and packaged foods when it comes to giving to food banks, but what about fresh produce? During this new “organic era” we are being encouraged from every angle to eat healthy and fresh, but we all know that comes with a price; it is easier, faster and cheaper to eat fast food, and it is as easy for Food Banks to acquire and provide canned and packaged foods.

All that said, the question is: Can we possibly provide fresh produce for Food Banks? I believe the answer is yes. Want more? Click here. It will definitely require more man power (usually volunteers) and new methods for acquiring these fresh foods, but some are as simple as attaining partnerships with produce growers to allow the Food Banks to recover any produce left behind by the automated pick up machines, as well as partnering with grocery stores to donate those “still edible” but too close to expiring products.

As it is with any new initiative, providing Fresh Produce to Food Banks definitely poses a challenge, but there are ways around it and can be achieved with collaboration from food growers, food distributors and individual volunteers, one step at a time, one country at a time.

The art of gardening is considered by some to be one of the most difficult tasks to master. After all, all plants have their various needs and requirements to look the best. Many have been said to be blessed with a “green thumb” and succeed greatly in planting a gorgeous garden that all can enjoy. If you are considering taking up this art, perhaps it would be nice to share the duties with a neighbor who is also interested. After all, this would mean that you do not have to rely on yourself to do all of the work. It would also be beneficial in getting the opinion of another person when having to make important decisions. Of course this would mean that if you are planting fruits or vegetables that some sort of agreement should be settled as far as how much each person would get to keep. All in all, gardening with a neighbor has many benefits and could be a great way to get to know another person. If you are considering this, perhaps read up on gardening in your local library or do a search on the Internet for great information on this particular topic area.

One night all the neighbors come together with garbage bags and tillers. Once the ground is clear and the earth tilled all neighbors can participate pouring planting soil, organic manure and remixing the earth. Communities across America can develop projects that alone is impossible but in a group is easy. Even a large garden in an empty lot can reinvigorate the community.

Planting kid-friendly foods such as potatoes, pumpkins, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, corn, tomatoes and strawberries insures a high yield of kid and finicky eater produce for the entire neighborhood. These plants grow easily in drought, rainy weather, sun and shade. Each night the community visits the site to water, feed, weed and complete their assigned chores. Before the heat of August sends everyone to their air conditioned rooms, the garden will yield corn, green and yellow beans, cucumbers and strawberries.

Community gardens are easy work once they are established. Young children and the elderly can participate in the gardens health. Community members take pride in this accomplish that raises community awareness and camaraderie everywhere the garden grows. That empty lot will transform your neighborhood all year long as a playground with pot luck after the growing season.
