You will find it is true that a small group can grow community pride. When a group of people come together to create a better way of life, it can effect the whole world. This is great for the group, the people involved, the community and the rest of the world as it grows into something wonderful. There have been groups from the world over that have started small and created an idea for others to follow.
Once such group are the people who have become involved with community gardens. Many churches, businesses and schools have been offered a section of land to use as the garden. Volunteers choose a gardening method and begin a small plot. Most of the time the method agreed upon by the group is square foot gardening. They plant and care for the garden until it is ready to harvest. Churches supply fresh produce to any of the members in need and to the community. Businesses help employees reduce their food budget and schools help by providing much needed produce to the food banks.
Food banks are strained to the limited in our current economy trying to provide enough food for everyone in need. With the help of community gardens, they are able to provide a healthier selection of food for families and children in their community. As the word spreads about another community garden, the next county, state or country takes advantage of it and begins a community garden of their own. With enough community gardens in each area of the world, we will soon be able to help cut the cost of land that is disappearing as farm land. Depending on your location and weather, you can grow a variety of good food from potatoes, carrots and other vegetables to strawberries and apple trees.
