Community Outreach Through Church Gardens Produce

Community gardens are a great way to bring the church and the community together. Church leaders should call on the community for the upkeep of the garden, and to run a distribution program. The community will benefit from the garden by having access to fresh fruits and vegetables they would normally have to purchase from a grocery store or fruit market outside of their area. During the initial planting and designing of the garden, church members and leaders will have the opportunity to work side by side with members of the community.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. This will produce new relationships between the community and the church. Many religious institutions across the nation have began this type of community outreach program and have been successful. Church leaders should be sure to reach out to the youth in the community as well as the adults when they began the garden outreach. Youth who participate in the program will learn new skills and become interested in other programs that the church has to offer. Parents who find their youth interested in church functions may also become curious and began to look into the other resources available through the church. This is how community relations are built.
